Our office will be closed in observation of Indigenous People Day (formerly Columbus Day).
While many people have learned that Christopher Columbus “discovered” the Americas, it is known that Indigenous people had populated the Western Hemisphere for thousands of years prior to his arrival. Upon his arrival, the people already living in this area of the world were treated as “less-thans”, being enslaved, relocated, and often physically harmed. Indigenous People Day recognizes that there were humans present on this land before Christopher Columbus and honors their traditions, cultures, and livelihood.
