June 19 All day
In honor of Juneteenth, the CAC office will be closed today.
Although the Emancipation Proclamation was effective in January 1, 1863, it was not implemented in Confederate territories. On June 19, 1865, Union Troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas, announcing that more than 250,000 enslaved African-American people in the state were by executive decree. This day has come to be known as “Juneteenth”.
In 2021, Juneteenth became a national holiday, recognizing the ongoing fight for human rights and equality, and celebrating resilience and achievement.
